Background
Education outside the classroom is a term for academic instruction that regularly takes place outside of the school buildings for an extended period. In EOtC, the goal of improving health and well-being aligns with the core mission of schools, which is learning and all-around development. There is a strong interaction between the education and health sectors.
Objective
The aim of the project is to support teachers who want to use education outside the classroom as a method to promote physical activity in primary schools. Inspirational materials will be created for both teachers who already actively engage in education outside the classroom and those who want to get started with it.
Method
In the project, educational materials have been developed to introduce what education outside the classroom is and how it can help enhance physical activity in academic instruction. The materials include 18 subject sequences and three videos that offer concrete ideas for education outside the classroom, integrating movement into instruction in a meaningful way, thereby promoting students' health and well-being.
The project is carried out in collaboration between the Center for Children and Nature, the Department of Geoscience and Natural Resource Management at the University of Copenhagen, Steno Diabetes Center Copenhagen, VIA University College, the Department of Geoscience and Natural Resource Management at the University of Copenhagen, and the Center for Clinical Research and Prevention at Bispebjerg and Frederiksberg Hospital.
Funding
The project has been granted 399,699 DKK from the Ministry of Children and Education's education funding for 2020.
