Gro Askgaard forsker i leversygdomme og andre alkohol-forårsagede sygdomme med særligt fokus på ulighed i sundhed, epidemiologi og muligheder for forebyggelse. Hun er uddannet læge og er under videreuddannelse til speciallæge i lever-, mave- og tarmsygdomme. Gro´s ph.d. var baseret på de danske sundhedsregistre og befolkningsundersøgelser.
