Merete Osler has extensive experience in epidemiology and register-based research especially within neuropsychiatry. Main research areas are the co-occurrence of somatic and mental disorders and beneficial and adverse treatment effects. She has used novel designs and advanced statistical modelling to disentangle the mechanisms linking somatic and mental disorders and to explore short and long-term effects of  electroconvulsive therapy and specific neuropharmacological treatments
