Mathilde is a PhD fellow in the Section for Health Promotion and Prevention and the Elite Centre for Understanding Human Relationships with the Environment (CUHRE) at the University of Southern Denmark. She is also affiliated with the Programme for Outdoor Pedagogies at VIA University College.

Her PhD project, Nature Bildung Across School Subjects, is part of the Nature Bildung Programme at the Danish Centre for Children and Nature. In addition to her PhD research, she serves as the daily project manager of the project.

She holds a master's degree in Human Ecology, where she wrote her thesis in connection with the MOVEOUT project. Her thesis examined children's Nature Bildung in Education Outside the Classroom (EOtC), with a particular focus on how teachers' didactic approaches can influence children's relationships with nature and support both subject-specific learning and broader educational development.

As part of her PhD, Mathilde investigates how Nature Bildung can be integrated across school subjects in ways that strengthen children's relationships with nature while supporting curricular learning and sustainable education. Her research combines the development and evaluation of practice-oriented teaching approaches in close collaboration with teachers, schools and teacher educators.

Previously, Mathilde worked as a research assistant on the project Udeskole for All, where she investigated how Education Outside the Classroom can support wellbeing, participation, and inclusive learning environments for pupils with ADHD and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

Mathilde's research interests include Nature Bildung, Education Outside the Classroom, sustainability education, didactics, and children's relationships with nature. She has extensive experience with qualitative and ethnographic research methods, including classroom observations, interviews, co-creation, and the analysis of teaching practices and educational development processes.
