Medical doctor 1974 (University of Copenhagen). Specialist in surgery (1984) and surgical gastroenterology (1989). Consultant in surgical gastroenterology 1992-1997. From 1997-2017 Director of Research Centre for Prevention and Health. Since 2007 professor in prevention and health promotion, University of Copenhagen. Since 2011 professor in health promotion, Aalborg University.

Scientific publications and presentations

DrMedSc (thesis) in 1990. A total of 900 publications mainly within epidemiology and preventive medicine. Of these more than 700 are original scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals. H-index >75. More than 375 scientific presentations, often as invited speaker.

Other scientific obligations

Supervisor for 43 PhD students (41 finished and 2 active). Mentor at 7 doctoral theses (DrMedSc). Opponent at 65 PhD studies and doctoral theses. Editor at European Journal Preventive Cardiology (2007-2014). Member of Nucleus (Prevention, Epidemiology and Public health) in ESC. Participant in several national and international large scale projects within epidemiology and prevention (MONICA, MORGAM, BioMarCaRE, DanThyr, Inter99, LuCAMP, DanFunD) .

Positions of trust

President of the Danish Society of Epidemiology 1993-1995. President of the board of the Prevention and Information Committee in the Danish Cancer Society 2007-10. President of the Scientific Board in Danish Society of Public Health 2012-2016.
