The movement laboratory

The gait and movement laboratory is the newest section of the Parker Institute
Opened in 2007, The Gait and Movement Laboratory is a relative newcomer to the Parker Institute. The need for establishing this function has grown naturally out of numerous projects, which aimed at testing various aspects of movement and pain.

The purpose is to create theoretical and practical knowledge of movement in health, disease and rehabilitation with a focus on musculoskeletal diseases. This knowledge should contribute to developing prevention and treatment of various musculoskeletal diseases.

At present we do daily tests with participants in our project on weight loss and knee osteoarthritis. We test gait pattern and other aspects of the participants’ movement both before and after weight loss.
In terms of education the Movement Laboratory aims to contribute actively in the planning and completion of especially PhD courses. For that, as for other purposes, we seek international collaboration. Our vision is to be a nationally and internationally recognized unit for movement science and biomechanics in musculoskeletal diseases and disorders.
