The connective tissue laboratory analyses tissue samples and works on developing new methods of quantification
We use cultivation of cells from e.g. tissue, synovial fluid, serum, or urine, to determine endogenous substances. These substances may be markers of inflammation, of tissue damage or of pathological changes in metabolism.
The laboratory has both the equipment and the expertise to use and develop methods based on fluid chromatography, immunochemical methods such as ELISA, electrophoresis and fluid scintillation count.
We prepare specimens for light microscopy and electron microscopy. The substances which can be determined include collagens and glucosaminoglucans, mediators of inflammation i.e. cytokines, and lipid metabolites. All of these substances can be of use in determining the nature and severity of a disease, its prognosis and its response to therapy.
